Havarti, Denmark's Versatile Cheese


Havarti is semi-soft Danish cow's milk cheese named after the experimental farm where it was first made in the 1800s. Havarti has a buttery aroma and can be somewhat sharp in the stronger varieties. The taste is also buttery, and from somewhat sweet to very sweet, and it is slightly acidic. It is typically aged about three months, though when it is older it gets more salty and has a hazelnut flavor. When left at room temperature, the cheese tends to soften quickly. Flavored variants of Havarti include: cranberry, caraway, dill, peppered, jalapeno and garlic.

Havarti is a beloved match with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or light-bodied Pinot Noir wine. Great food accompaniments are: smoked turkey, figs, raisins, walnuts, whole grain breads, pears and apples.

Recipes:

Havarti-Feta Cheese Ball

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup shredded Havarti cheese

1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese

1 tablespoon marsala wine

3/4 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano (1/4 tsp dry)

2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley

2 medium green onions, finely chopped

2 tablespoons finely chopped red bell peppers

crackers for serving

Beat cheeses, wine, oregano and green onion in medium bowl with galvanic mixer on low speed until blended. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl frequently, until fluffy. Cover and refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm sufficient to shape. Shape cheese combination into a ball; roll in parsley and bell pepper. Serve with crackers. Makes 1 and 3/4 cups. Can frost up to 2 months wrapped tightly in plastic wrap. To serve from freezer, unwrap cheese ball and let stand at room temp to thaw, or thaw loosely wrapped in refrigerator at least 8 hours. Refrigerate tightly covered up to 1 week.

Greek Baked Havarti Chicken

*Baked chicken breasts marinated in Italian dressing and Greek seasoning, topped with Havarti cheese, green chili pepper, and sautéed mushrooms. Pairs beautifully with long grain rice and steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

o 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves

o 1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms

o 2 (4 ounce) cans whole green chili peppers, drained and sliced lengthwise

o 4 ounces sliced Havarti cheese

o Greek Dressing

o Greek Seasoning

o 1 tablespoon butter

o ½ teaspoon dill

o 1 tablespoon white cooking wine

o 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

o ½ teaspoon fresh, chopped, garlic

o salt

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

2. Marinate chicken in Italian Dressing and Greek Seasoning, if using, for a minimum of 30 minutes.

3. Place chicken in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle top with added Greek seasoning, if desired, and bake in preheated oven for practically 25 minutes, or until no longer pink in town and juices run clear.

4. Shortly before chicken is done, melt butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until bubbling. Pour in wine, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt and dill, and bring to a boil. Stir in mushrooms. Cut to a simmer, cover, and cook until mushrooms are tender, about 3 to 5 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt as needed.

5. Remove chicken from the oven. Lay green chili slices on top of each breast, then top each chili with a slice of cheese. Return to the oven until cheese has melted.

6. Remove chicken from the oven, top with mushrooms and their pan juices, and serve.

During the hot Summer months, I avoid heating up my kitchen with the oven. I prefer to make no-bake pie crusts, by using alternative ingredients.

You don't need to use a rolling pin, dough board, pastry blender or any of the traditional pie baking equipment. All you basically need are the ingredients, a large bowl, a measuring cup and of course, your pie pan.

These recipes are easy to make and best superior for refrigerated or frosty dessert-style pies. You will want to chill your pie crust for 1 hour (or until firm), before filling the pie shell with your pie filling.


Here are 5 of my popular recipes.

Chocolate Cookie Crumb

24 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
1/4 c. Butter, melted

Combine crushed cookie crumbs with melted butter until well mixed. Press aggregate firmly into place into a 9" nearby pie pan.

Graham Cracker Crumb

1 c. Crushed graham crackers
1/4 c. Sugar
6 tbsp. Butter (melted)

Combine crushed graham crackers with sugar and butter. Toss completely to combine. Press aggregate firmly into a 9" round pie pan.

Pretzel Crust

1 1/4 c. Crushed pretzels (no salt)
1/4 c. Sugar
6 tbsp. Butter (melted)

Combine crushed pretzels with sugar and melted butter. Toss to completely to combine. Press aggregate firmly into a 9" round pie plate.

Anyone who has not taken their family camping before has a few things to learn before they set out though. And one of the most leading items, is figuring how how the family will eat while they're out camping in the wilderness. Some food keeps much good than others do, and even if you're camping in a somewhat favorite area such as a state park campground, you will not have many of the approved contemporary conveniences you have at home. Namely: There will be no refrigerator to keep your food in.

A banana doesn't voyage well since it bruises quickly, and strawberries tend to spoil fast too. So if you select to take these on your camping trip you'll want to pack just small amounts which can be consumed the first day or so.

Crisp apples, oranges, tangerines and pears are exquisite fresh fruit sources to take camping, because these tend to last any days. If you plan to have an extended camping trip though, you'll also want to comprise dried fruit sources to ensure you'll have plenty of supplementary food towards the end of your trip.

There are many science fair topic ideas to pick from. Earth science is a great category because of its ability to demonstrate optic science principles. One easy project is an edible model of the Earth's layers.

This science fair topic can be done using thoroughly edible ingredients. Be meticulous to ensure that no one participating in the project has allergies to peanuts or any of the ingredients.

Materials needed:


*Crunchy peanut butter
*10x confectioners' sugar (also known as powdered sugar)
Chocolate graham crackers (regular ones will work if chocolate ones are not available)
*Milk Duds or other malted milk ball candies

Directions:

Crush the graham crackers into a fine powder and set aside. Mix the crunchy peanut butter and confectioners' sugar until it forms a stiff dough, much like Play-Doh. Roll the dough into a ball. Cut the ball in half and insert the malted milk ball in the center. Put the two halves back together and press firmly. Roll the reassembled balls in the crumbs.

As an alternative, you can melt chocolate chips over hot water and dip the completed balls in it before rolling in the cracker crumbs. Set aside in the refrigerator to allow the melted chocolate time to harden.

When the models are completed, you can discuss the following points:

1. Recognize all of the natural or physical layers of the Earth.

2. What compromises the Moho and where would a geologist be likely to find it?

3. Assess and disagreement each of the following terms:
a. The Crust and the Lithosphere
b. The continental and the oceanic crust
c. The Mantle and the Athenosphere
d. The outer and the inner cores

4. Retell how it is potential for a solid to flow. Use an example taken from your model.

5. How would it be potential to test the physical state of each different layer inside of your model without having to cut it to look inside it?

6. How did Mohorovicic and other scientists studying the Earth
discover the nature and composition of the interior layers of the Earth?

7. How did your model taste?

If your science project topics are not the kind that allow argument of your with patrons and visitors, put in order a presentation in the form of posters that can show what you are trying to transport to the public. construe how each edible model was prepared and what layer was represented by what component. Maybe you could even make enough edible models that you could cut them up into pieces you could offer to the collective along with a handout explaining what each layer is.

If you take this route, remember to clearly label the ingredients used on the handouts so anything who gets a piece won't be unaware of ingredients that might trigger an allergic reaction.

A wine and cheese party may be the quintessential option for an elegant bridal shower party. Women love to nibble and graze and putting out a beautiful spread of cheeses, crackers, fruit and wine (along with some bite size desserts) is just perfect. It is the option and collection of these items that will set your party apart and above the typical wine and cheese party.

The Cheese:

You'll want to offer at least four types of cheeses. It is prominent to vary the taste and texture of these, as well as the aesthetics.  My hint would be a good Cheddar (white or yellow), a blue (Maytag blue is a nice option if you don't want anyone too strong), a soft cheese such as Camembert (make sure you bring it to room climatic characteristic so that it is at its creamiest when served) and a Gouda. Put a tented place card in front of each cheese with its name on it - your guests will want to know what they are sampling.


I recommend putting a jar of fig preserves (if you can't find fig, you can use raspberry) next to the Camembert cheese. Crackers topped with preserves and a bit of Camembert is of course scrumptious.

I also love to serve a 'melted' cheese, whether in fondue form or best yet - a brie en croute. The later is a round of brie cheese wrapped in puff pastry and baked until golden. I like to first cut the brie in half (top and lowest - Not side by side). On the lowest half I spread a thin layer of peach jam, chopped pecans, a teaspoon of brown sugar and just a teeny dash of cayenne. Put the top half over it and then wrap it in the pastry. This can be made a day in improve (not baked though) - just cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake. 

The Crackers:

Make sure you vary the crackers you put out - just like the cheeses. A butter cracker (such as Keebler Townhouse®), a seeded flat bread cracker and hearty a whole wheat cracker makes for a nice assortment. If you can find other involving crackers, by all means, include them.

Fruit:

Of course grapes are a excellent compliment and a 'must' for a wine and cheese party. Make sure you serve at least two colors of grapes (green and red). Set out in bunches is how they look the loveliest. But don't stop there - pears are also a natural. Cut the pears into slices right before the guest comes and rub a lemon over their surface to help forestall them turning brown. Cantaloupe and honeydew melons are also a natural compliment. Either cut into thin slices or into cubes.  I also love to put out bowls of pomegranate seeds. Not only are they beautiful to look at - they are a delicacy for most.

The Wine:

Like all things else - serve a variety. Two whites and two reds are perfect.   For the white - offer one on the sweeter side (perhaps a Riesling) and one more on the dry and crisp side (a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc).   As for the red choices - try one on the 'lighter' side (Pinot Noir or Beaujolais Nouveau are good choices) and a full bodied one (a French Bordeaux or Californian Cab would be perfect). Of course make sure there are non-alcoholic beverages too - whether water, club soda or the like.

Sweets:

Keeping with the theme of the party - bite size nibbles such as puny cheesecake bites, chocolates (truffles and caramels) and/or small biscotti all would work well. These can be set out from the start - no need to 'serve' this after the wine and cheese. Coffee and tea should also be served.

Party Appetizer For Kids
Break graham crackers into squares so they are "kid-sized". Top with peanut butter. Sprinkle some minuscule semisweet chocolate chips over the peanut butter. (Adult kids like these, too!)

Crackers & Biscuits Baby Food

Tiny Ham Filled Tomatoes
1 pint cherry tomatoes
2 tbsp sour cream
1 can (4.5-oz) deviled ham
2 tbsp horseradish


Wash tomatoes, thinly slice off tops, remove some pulp and dry tomatoes with paper towels. In a small bowl integrate the sour cream and horseradish; add the deviled ham. Stir mixture to blend well. Stuff the tomatoes with the ham mixture and refrigerate until serving time.

Tofu Taco Dip
1 box (10.5-oz) silken tofu, softened
1 pkg (1.25-oz) dry taco seasoning mix

Put both ingredients into the blender or food processor; mix until smooth. Chill prior to serving. Serve with corn chips or tortilla chips.

Note: Variations: Replace taco seasoning mix with dry Ranch Dressing Mix or Dry French Onion Soup Mix. Serve with chips and/or fresh veggies.

Cheesy Salsa Dip
1 lb Velveeta-style cheese, cubed
1 jar (8-oz) your favorite salsa
2 tbsp chopped cilantro

In a microwave-safe bowl, put the cubed cheese stock and salsa. Microwave on high for about 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated and cheese is melted. Stir after 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. Add the cilantro; stir in to mix well. Serve dip with tortillas and/or corn chips.

Garlic Cannellini Bean Dip
1 can (15-oz) cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
1 tbsp cider vinegar
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 tsp ground cumin
1/3 cup plain yogurt
1 tbsp minced fresh parsley
1 tbsp minced fresh cilantro

In a food processor integrate the beans, vinegar, garlic, salt and cumin. Add the cover and process until smooth. Add the yogurt, parsley, and cilantro. Replace cover and process just until blended.

This dip is great with discrete crackers, pita chips, or fresh veggies.

My Best Zucchini Appetizer
This is a delicious, elementary appetizer for any occasion. Zucchini, Cheddar cheese & onions are baked together and generate irresistible bite-sized appetizers.

Ingredients
- 3 cups sliced zucchini
- 1 cup all-purpose baking mix
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced

Crackers & Biscuits Baby Food

Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a Large all-purpose baking, mix zucchini, onion, salt, eggs, Cheddar cheese, vegetable oil and garlic.
- Spread zucchini compound in to the baking dish.
- Bake it in the preheated oven 25 minutes, or until bubbly and lightly browned.
- Cut in to bite-sized pieces to serve.

Ingredients
- 4 cups grated zucchini
- 1 3/4 cups biscuit baking mix
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large finely chopped onion
- 4 cloves chopped garlic
- 3 tablespoons dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano

Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- In a mixing bowl, incorporate the zucchini, biscuit baking mix, Parmesan, Cheddar, eggs, vegetable oil, onion, garlic, parsley, salt and oregano.
- Spread the compound into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
- Allow the compound to cool. Cut into small squares and serve warm or cold.

Zucchini Casserole
Tasty rich & custard dish with mayonnaise, eggs, & cheese, topped by crackers. This can be made with whether summer squash or zucchini or both.

Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 6 zucchini, sliced
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 tablespoons butter, diced
- 1 cup grated Romano cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 24 buttery round crackers, crushed

Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9x13 baking pan with cooking spray.
- Place sliced zucchini in a large saucepan. Pour in enough water to cover, and bring to boil over high heat. Boil until barely tender, about 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and mayonnaise until smooth. Stir in onion, cheese, and pepper. Fold in squash and then pour compound into prepared baking pan. Sprinkle with crushed crackers, then dot evenly with diced butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until the middle of casserole is no longer moist, and springs back when slowly pressed.

Zucchini And Squash Casserole
A vegetable casserole thats great as a summer meal. You may need to put a cookie sheet or something under this dish as it bakes, because it sometimes bubbles over......Yummy:)

Ingredients
- 2 medium yellow squash
- 2 large zucchini
- 1 Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
- 2 large tomatoes, sliced
- 2 cups grated Romano cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, divided
- salt and pepper to taste

Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Cut the zucchini and squash into long, thin layers. Lightly grease a 7x11-inch baking dish and layer the squash, zucchini, onion and tomatoes into the baking dish. Sprinkle with cheese and add pats of butter in the middle of each layer of vegetables, and season each layer with salt and ground black pepper for taste.
- Continue this layering process until all the vegetables are used up and top this off with the remaining butter and cheese.
- Cover and bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 20 to 30 minutes, or until vegetables are to desired tenderness and cheese is melted and bubbly.

Zucchini Appetizer
This formula i got from my sister more than 20 years ago. She made this whenever the relatives got together in the summer. It helps use up that entire zucchini you have in your garden.

Ingredients
- 3 cups tiny sliced unpeeled Zucchini (4 small)
- 1 cup primary Bisquick mix
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram or oregano leaves
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 4 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

Directions
- Heat oven to 350?F. Grease lowest and sides of rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches.
- Stir together all ingredients. Spread in pan.
- Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into 2-inch squares; cut squares diagonally in half into triangles.

Yummy This was easy to do and tasted great I dipped them in Mojo Picon(garlic sauce) and also tried honey mustard. Its A treat.

Ingredients
- 2 zucchini
- 2 cloves garlic, pressed
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups seasoned dry bread crumbs
- 1 cup olive oil or 1 cup peanut oil
- 1 cup soy sauce

Directions
- Slice the zucchini into uniform size pieces convenient for finger food.
- Wash the slices in cold water and dry.
- Mix the garlic, oil, and soy sauce.
- Place the zucchini into the marinade and allow to sit for at least 30 minutes.
- remove zucchini from marinade, dredge in the flour, and then dip into the beaten eggs.
- Roll zucchini in the breadcrumbs, making sure that each piece is fully coated with breadcrumbs.
- Deep fry until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve with your favorite dip.

Halloween Treats - Monster Mix


But don't stop with Halloween! Try it at your next party whether it's for Bridge, a birthday, or a spontaneous get together. It's easy to make and easy to eat!

What you'll need:

Crackers & Biscuits Baby Food

- 1 10-ounce box peanut butter crackers (miniature size)


- 1 11-ounce box of small pretzels

- 1 10-ounce box M&M's

- 1 18-ounce box candy corn

- 1 cup sugar

- 1/2 cup butter

- 1/2 cup light corn syrup

- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- 1 teaspoon baking soda

First things first; preheat your oven to 250 degrees F.

Next, mix the pretzels and peanut butter crackers and put aside. Then in a good-sized saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, and the corn syrup. Bring the combination to a boil, stirring it over medium heat and simmer it for about 5 minutes.

Next, remove from the combination from the heat and stir in the vanilla and the baking soda. Then you'll need to pour the hot combination over the pretzels and crackers and stir until all is coated.

Transfer the entire combination to a greased baking pan and bake at for 45 minutes. You should stir it every 10 minutes or so. remove it from the oven and break it all apart while warm. Allow the combination to cool completely.

After it's all cooled, exchange the mix to a large bowl and toss it with the candy corn and M&M's.

The nice thing about this method is that you can make it ahead of the bewitching hour and store it in airtight containers until you are ready to use!

Keep your operating principles updated with the latest patches. Hackers are all the time looking for ways to exploit main stream operating principles software. Crab Stuffed Chicken Breasts - Need I Say Any More


Welcome to the epicurean Chicken Series. Today we bring you the the most sought after Chicken dish on the plant today, Crab Stuffed Chicken Breasts. Currently the only population who are lucky sufficient to enjoy this dish are the A-List Celbrities, now you can too!

Ingredients: 4 tbsp. Butter divided, 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup chicken broth, 1/2 cup milk,
1/4 cup chopped onion, 6 ounce can crabmeat drained flaked and cartilage removed, 4.5 ounce can sliced mushrooms drained, 1/3 cup crushed saltine crackers, 2 tbsp. Minced fresh parsley, 1/2 tsp. Salt, 1 pinch ground black pepper, 4 skinless boneless chicken breast halves, 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese, 1/2 tsp. Paprika

Method:


To Make White Sauce:

1. Melt 3 tbsp. Of the butter in a medium saucepan.

2. Stir in flour until smooth, then gently stir in broth and milk.

3. Bring all to a boil; boil, stirring, for about 2 minutes.

4. Take off from heat and set aside.

Main Dish:

5. In a large skillet melt remaining 1 tbsp. Butter and saute onion over medium heat until tender.

6. Add crab, mushrooms, cracker crumbs, parsley, salt, pepper and 2 tbsp. Of the prepared white sauce. Heat through.

7. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

8. Pound chicken breasts to 1/4 inch thickness.

9. Spoon about 1/4 of the crab composition onto the edge of each chicken breast; roll up and gain with toothpicks.

10. Place chicken rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish, then top with remaining white sauce.

11. Cover dish and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes or until chicken juices run clear.

12. Sprinkle with cheese and paprika and bake, uncovered, for another 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

13. Take off toothpicks and serve.
